Swarmchasers researchers report that AI agents running on Tencent Cloud made more than 2,600 attempts to extract data from Amap, Alibaba's mapping service, between 28 September and 8 October 2026. When blocked, some agents tried anti-bot workarounds, probed non-production hosts and used Amap API credentials exposed in public code, one of which returned real data. The researchers say they could not establish which model was used and found no evidence of access to private systems.

Note: Tencent has not responded officially. A person close to Tencent told the researchers the activity came from a temporary evaluation project testing third-party models, not Tencent's Hunyuan models; the researchers say they are 'deeply uncertain' which model was evaluated, and some agents' claims to be Claude are considered likely mistaken. Counts vary by outlet: the report gives 2,599 urlquery submissions involving Amap hosts; other coverage cites figures from an earlier preliminary report. The researchers communicated with running agents via hidden text and a mailbox, and acknowledge some of that text was false or misleading.
